The Jesus Prom

On Friday Night we participated in the Jesus Prom. The Jesus Prom is a party for people who have disabilities and to love on them with kindness. It was set up as a Hawaiian Party. We had a great time greeting, doing their hair and make-up, tattooing fish, singing Karaoke and dancing at a big band dance. I ran into one of my childhood friends Darren who has special needs. He found me right away and he was very excited. We later danced and it was very sweet. We had 1/3 of the people we were hoping for because West Wichita was flooded that day with 10 inches of rain. Over a hundred residents in one facility had to evacuate during the day.
Even though we had small numbers,it was perfect because it was packed and we had over 400 volunteers. It was a wonderful night full of smiling faces and faces with utter amazement it was all for them. Scott and I enjoyed being apart of something so loving and inviting for everyone. I cried several times. The most moving moment was Ron, who was confined to a wheelchair and his arms unable to move much, sang a hymn with such a sweet humbling voice which had power and strength within every note. The craziest moment was me being asked to start a train during the dance and of course I did it! Good times!
