ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE

When I first got here I had a desk in my room but then some of the missionaries left and they took the desk with them. It was not a bad thing to be without a desk just not the best. In a few newsletters back I requested money for a desk and a couple from Big Brother's and Big Sister's (Jim and Linda) donated money for a desk. I wanted to let them know how blessed we feel. My roommate and I bought a desk together because we didn't want anything very fancy and we both wanted to use it. It's been a blessing to have and I am extremely thankful. We also have gotten doors in all the rooms of the house (the money was donated) and this cuts down on the noise. Before all we had were curtains and it was not very private. It's been a blessing to know God cares about the little things too! Thanks for prayers and donations to all my supporters and all the love you all have been giving me recently. Thanks.

Whoops! Cheetos please.

Living in Guatemala, I forget sometimes name brands are called the same and sometimes they are not! I have a love for Cheeto puffs. It's one thing at the snack bar I can bank on to enjoy each day if I choose. Last week I walked up to the counter and asked our nice young male PE instructor for a pepsi and cheetos. Our male music instructor was standing there and laughed out loud very unmannerly. I looked at him and asked him what he was laughing about. He made his lips into a kissing motion and said Cheetos. In Spanish it's actucally pronounced ("chettos" a bag of puffs). Cheetos is a kiss. So needless to say once I found out what it actually meant I turned five shades of red and then I ordered five! Now, they all give me a hard time and laugh. I figured it would be a good blog moment.

Sports at the Inn

Tuesday Nights one of my housemates has several of her nephews come and play soccer in our cancha. Each time we beat them by 10 or 15 pts. There are about nine of them and none are Christians. It's a great opportunity to love of them and get to know them. They all know my name and last night they wanted me on their team. I was flattered because I love playing. Although,I feel like my body is about to break down after we play for two hours. (Note to self: strech before playing)

Thursday Nights we are going to start up a volleyball league to hopefully get more church people and their families involved. We have hopes to reach the community through this league. Please pray for all the teams to be in line and everyone to show up on time. We are having our volleyball girls do line judging and learn to officiate the games. It's a great opportunity for them, please pray they enjoy it as well.

One thing about Gautemalans they play rain or shine. With rainy season approaching it will be interesting to see how the volleyball league goes. It's a continuing learning curve for me. (Note to self: Be flexible).

FAST FOOD

I met Amy during our intermissons conference in Antiqua about three months ago and her, her friend and I hit it off. Amy works for Food for the Hungry in Guatemala City. She invited me to come hangout with her for the weekend and what a blessing she was to me. Being in the City there are fast food restuarants (and you know how much I love those) so we hit Subway. I didn't think about needing to know vegetable words and mustard and mayo. But luckily I don't like 90% of the vegetables. The next day we went Apple B's my favorite restuarant and it was amazing. We even visited a mega church called El Shadi. It was very upbeat and the music lasted about 40 minutes. The guest speaker spoke in English and it was a nice taste of home just for a weekend. Amy and I sat and talked about books in the Bible and our Bible college classes. She was such an encouragement to me. AS I came walking through the gate back to our mininstry and a few roommates waved welcome home. I had a big smile on my face as if I went to Disney Land or something. I don't know why, but it was just encouraging to step back and see how blessed you are in the mininstry you are in. Thanks God for sending me to Gautemala and having friends here and back home praying and encouraging me to stay strong and focused on HIM always. Thanks God!

Church Picnic and Spiderman Birthday

So today was packed with fun and excitement. The church picnic was fun because we were just one big family. I taught six different girls who to dive and they pretty much all got it by the end of the lesson (only a few belly flops). Of course the men in leadership were thrown in the pool. It scared me a little since this was the way I received my first concussion. Two guys tried to throw me in the pool and the guy holding my hands let go on three and the other guy didn't. Needless to say no one got hurt! Everyone had fun!!!

After the picnic, I took off for a birthday party of one of my pre-kinder kids (Fernado Jose Mus). I love him so much. He turned five years old. As I walked in, he greeted me with a big hug and kiss. I looked up and Spiderman was at his party. It reminded me of my brother who loves Spiderman and it was so adoreable to see the kids in awe of him. There was a rope hanging from the ceiling and he climb it and went upside down. It was incredible then he walked over to the side and folded his arms like he was Forrest Gump underneath all that spider gear. It was hilarious!! He would sweep the crowd with fancy moves and then fold his arms. The kids didn't know what to think.

Jose liked the balloon he got from the clowns because it was a sword. Mine was a small flower but it looked like a mini sword if I turned it upside down. We fought with our swords and the next thing I knew I had seven little boys fighting with me. Spiderman felt a little left out. Sorry Spidey! I was the only American there but this time felt like I was part of their family.
